To understand Reiki and the hand positions used one will have to have some knowledge of the chakras. The chakras are both connected to the physical organs in our body and the different layers in the aura.

ROOT CHAKRA /MULADHARA CHAKRA

Root Chakra

Muladhara or the root chakra is one of the seven most important chakras. Its energy is based on the earth element. The root chakra is comprised of whatever grounds you to stability in your life. This includes your basic needs such as food, water, shelter, safety, as well as your emotional needs of interconnection, and being fearless. When these needs are met, you feel grounded and safe. It’s at the base of the chakra system and lays the foundation for expansion in your life.

Location

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine, where sacrum joins coccyx, in rear, to middle bottom of pubic bone, in front.

Function

The Root Chakra provides the link between our energetic system and the physical world and It is our base for our life force energy. It is the seat of Kundalini energy. It gives us the motivation to eat, sleep and procreate. When it comes to our psychological and spiritual nature, it helps us develop our personal integrity, self-esteem and sense of belonging. It helps us to develop our creative expression, and gives us the sense of abundance.

Blocked/ Underactive or Overactive?

Blocked/Underactive:

If our root chakra is imbalanced or blocked, you may feel threatened, panicked or anxious, making everything suddenly feel uncertain. The location for the sacral chakra is about three inches below the navel, at the centre of your lower belly.

It’s the driving force for the enjoyment of life through the senses, whether it’s auditory, through taste, touch, or sight.

When there’s a problem with the Sacral Chakra, you’re likely to feel bored, listless and uninspired. You may have a low sex drive, and you’ll possibly feel afraid of (or resistant to) change. Physical symptoms associated with a blocked Sacral Chakra can include urinary discomfort, increased allergies, constipation, gynaecological cysts, abnormal menstruation and an attraction to addictive behaviours. Overactive:
